Too much evolution thrown in, the language of this strange people was annoying, and Burroughs' storytelling powers weren't up to snuff. I really loved this book and just can't recommend it enough. I was provided a complimentary copy of this book, through Reading Deals, and I have left an honest review. The text is straight forward, but it is the art work that is so awe-inspiring. In The Life-Giving Stone, Michael Searcy provides a thought-provoking ethnoarchaeological account of metate and mano manufacture, marketing, and use among Guatemalan Maya for whom these stone implements are still essential equipment in everyday life and diet. Along with the "new" illustration there's a new name too.
