This was not an easy book for me to read I read it slowly and tried to digest each chapter. He gives us a tale of angst and despair featuring some over-the-top characters, including the drunk gambling loser, his skanky wife on her third marriage (and still choosing loser after loser each of whom she ends up supporting), her boyfriend (the ex-con Aryan gangster who thinks he's a television show tough guy), and of course the wife's eighteen year old son from a former fling who just likes fighting.
